Are you thinking of registering a week before the wedding? Already forget to send out your registry link to guests? SimpleRegistry blogger Adam Warner reveals six of the most common wedding registry mistakes plus easy alternatives that will pave the way for a successful registry experience.
1) Waiting Until the Last Minute to Register
For starters, don't rush! We recommend registering about six months before the big day. This will give you plenty of time to curate your registry collection, put together an amazing registry page, and make adjustments as needed.
Also, if you wait until the last minute, you may not be able to receive any contributions until after the wedding and honeymoon. However, by registering months in advance, you can start redeeming gifts as they come in, leaving little or no pressure to make redemptions during your wedding or honeymoon period.
2) Not Adding Enough Gift Items
When in doubt, choose more items than the number of invitees. This way your guests can easily scroll through your registry and find the best gift matches for them.
Additionally, think about all of the items, activities, and experiences that you truly need and will help you grow as a couple. Sit down together as a couple and take inventory of all these different items. Is your suitcase on its last legs? Use your registry to make the upgrade. Have you always wanted to go sunset sailing together? Hit the water by adding a local excursion to your list.
3) Not Adding Any Personal Touches
Next, look to personalize your registry just like you would for the wedding. Start by including some of your favorite photos and a wonderful welcome message on your registry page. Make sure your personality as a couple really comes through in your gift descriptions as well. Remember that guests are much more excited to contribute towards a gift if they can really picture you enjoying it.
4) Not Including Enough Price Points for Gifts
Be sure to include a variety of price points so you can suit the budget of every guest -- whether it be $25, $75, or $250. Get creative, have fun, and really mix up the amounts of those gift items!
5) Not Sending Your Registry Link to Guests
Your friends and family won't be able to contribute if they don't know where to find your registry. Wedding gifts and registries should never be mentioned in your wedding invitations, but creating a wedding website can be a great way for guests to find information about your celebration in addition to your registries.
6) Not Using Any Photos
Use interesting and colorful pictures to showcase your gift items. The more inviting an image appears to your guests, the more likely it will persuade them to purchase the gift for you. Customizing your registry items will be super easy thanks to our massive gift image library, which features thousands of photos. So whether you're looking for that perfect sunset sailing photo or you need a romantic restaurant shot, we've got you covered.
